Residents of Springfield are mourning the loss of 32-year-old Christian Berry following a late-night pedestrian crash on Chestnut Expressway that also left another man critically injured.
According to the Springfield Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:52 p.m. on May 21, 2026, to the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and Grant Avenue after reports of a serious collision involving pedestrians.
When emergency responders arrived, they discovered two men suffering from severe injuries in the roadway. Investigators say a 17-year-old driver operating a 2018 Dodge Charger eastbound on Chestnut Expressway struck the pedestrians as they attempted to cross the street.
Christian Berry, 32, later died from his injuries despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel. The second victim, identified as 28-year-old William Turner, remains hospitalized in critical condition as doctors continue treatment.
