Authorities responded to a bomb threat at New London High School in Connecticut on Friday afternoon, prompting a temporary lockdown and a large emergency response before officials ultimately determined there was no credible danger on campus.
According to the New London Police Department, officers were dispatched to the school on Chester Street at approximately 1:39 p.m. on May 22, 2026, after reports of a possible bomb threat. As a precaution, school administrators immediately placed the campus under lockdown procedures to protect students, faculty, and staff while authorities investigated the situation.
Police officers, emergency responders, and school safety personnel coordinated a thorough search of the campus to determine whether any explosive devices or hazardous materials were present. During the operation, students and staff remained secured inside classrooms while law enforcement cleared the building and surrounding areas.
Following the investigation, authorities confirmed that no explosive devices were discovered and no injuries were reported. Officials later determined the threat to be non-credible, allowing the lockdown to be lifted and normal school operations to resume safely.
New London Police Chief Brian M. Wright stated that the department treated the situation with the highest level of seriousness to ensure the safety of everyone on campus and within the community. Authorities emphasized that all bomb threats are fully investigated regardless of credibility and may result in criminal charges for those responsible.
Although the immediate danger has been ruled out, the investigation into the source of the threat remains active. Detectives are working to identify the individual or individuals connected to the incident and are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact the New London Police Department or submit anonymous tips through the department’s Tip411 system.
The incident briefly caused concern throughout the New London community as parents, students, and residents awaited confirmation that the campus was secure. Officials praised the quick response by school staff and emergency personnel, noting that established safety protocols were followed effectively throughout the situation.
